Someone says that the idea behind the movie “Life Is Beautiful”, which earned Roberto Benigni an Oscar, was born in La Maddalena Archipelago, more precisely on the island of Santa Maria. The Tuscan actor and director, along with his wife Nicoletta Braschi, used to spend a week’s holiday in the Archipelago every year.

The splendid turquoise waters and that surreal peace, only interrupted by the sound of cormorants, are presumed to have inspired and facilitated him a lot in the drafting of the movie. Impressed by such beauty, the two actors, shortly thereafter, decided to buy a house on the island.
The choice fell on the dependence of Villa Casiraghi, 60sqm decorated in an elegant and sober way overlooking the sea of the Archipelago… one more reason to return to the island that brought him much luck, as stated by the Italian director himself.
